"UN for Taiwan" Supporters Celebrate Torch Relay Back to Taipei

On the evening of Nov. 3rd, “UN for Taiwan” supporters holding fluorescent sticks on Ketagalan Boulevard welcomed the torch relay promoting Taiwan’s UN bid back to Taipei after an 11-day tour across 25 cities and counties around Taiwan.

President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu received the torches on Xinyi Road from athletes who completed the 1200km relay, while DPP presidential candidate Frank Hsieh and running mate Su Tseng-chang led another crowd on a separate road. Two groups met up on Ketagalan Boulevard for the celebrations, with the supporters cheering “UN for Taiwan, Peace Forever.”

This torch relay was organized by the UN for Taiwan Alliance (UNTA). According to DPP, DPP has so far gathered 2.5 million signatures for its proposed referendum on Taiwan’s bid to join the UN, showing the public's resolution on the issue.

As a Taiwanese in the US, I am really happy to see that many people in Taiwan could unite together to voice out and try hard to overcome the problems that "One China Policy" has created in the international community. We must use "Taiwan" to enter the UN--no more "China" attachment!

Hello Bobby,

Few months ago, we published a book titled, “Deconstructuring ‘One China’: Theoretical, Comparative and Historical Studies.” Hope you will find it helpful. Thank you!
